Elementary Academics

NEW SCHOOL — CREATE SOMETHING DIFFERENT

Building Foundations

A critical role for elementary is building a strong academic foundation for students in literacy, math, social studies, and science.

These are the building blocks for middle school readiness that leads to college and career readiness. Students who are ready for college and careers can qualify for and succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing college courses leading to a college degree, a certificate, or a career pathway-oriented training program.

Academic standards identify what students should know and be able to do in the classroom within a given subject or content area. Standards serve as goals for student learning, guideposts for classroom instruction, and a framework for assessment. Each grade level has specific standards that students are being taught and assessed on throughout the school year.

Hogan teachers set high expectations for academics and provide the support to help students achieve these expectations. Teachers provide a learning environment that provides opportunities for critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, collaboration, leadership, and listening and speaking skills. The goal is to have our fifth graders exit Hogan Elementary ready for middle school with a strong foundation.
